Wednesdays in February, Nocturne presents an exploration of the works of the great American songwriter Bob Dylan, by the Dave Hanson Quartet. Along with unique arrangements of classic Dylan tunes, the band will include select original materials as "traveling companions" for the series as well.
Pianist/Composer Dave Hanson says of the series: "The figure of Bob Dylan has always been surrounded by an aura of mystery to me, but I was always drawn towards his work. For years I could never square my involvement in improvised music with his music. Recently, I thought “why not”? With my colleagues John Gunther on saxophones, Mark Simon on bass, and Todd Reid on drums, we will explore that “why not?” and see where it leads!"
Dave Hanson is an accomplished arranger, composer, and pianist who has written for a diverse range of artists and ensembles, including the Boston Pops, Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, Denver Brass, Boulder Brass, USAF Falconaires, and Paul Winter. He is co-leader and arranger for the critically acclaimed H2 Big Band (based in Denver, Colorado). Hanson teaches at the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver, and is actively performing and teaching in the Denver area.
A $9 per guest artist fee applies to this show. Reservations recommended!
