Art of the Trio: Jack Dunlevie plays Brad Mehldau

Art of the Trio: Jack Dunlevie plays the Music of Brad Mehldau

Throughout his prolific career Brad Mehldau has explored and expanded the reaches of expression both at the piano and within the classic piano trio format. His approach dives to new depths of harmony, rhythm, and technique while always carefully speaking the heart of a song. Jack Dunlevie pays homage to this trio with his own featuring Hunter Roberts on bass and Kevin Matthews on drums.

Jack Dunlevie is a Denver-based pianist, mandolinist, vocalist, and composer. He graduated in 2015 from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver winning awards in composition and recital performance. Performing full time around Colorado and touring nationally he can be heard playing Jazz, Classical, Salsa, and Bluegrass with a variety of bands both as a side man and as a leader.

Dred Scott Trio: A Retrospective

Join us for this very special, one-time evening with the Dred Scott Trio. In a celebration of Scott's 60th birthday, the band will be celebrating the music of the iconic players that inspire them: from giants of the piano such as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Keith Jarrett, to the inimitable style of drummer Jack DeJohnette and the recordings he made with the ECM label. This trio will also feature original music as well, highlighting Scott's distinctive compositional voice in his Nocturne debut! Scott will be joined by Denver favorites Mike Marlier (drums) and Patrick McDevitt (bass).

An iconoclastic entertainer, the incomparable renegade pianist Dred Scott is known for his playful and stylistically diverse repertoire and penchant for covering pop tunes. Dred has been based in NYC for 23 years. As a dynamic player and composer, Dred has recorded 13 albums as a leader and has performed on over 50 others. Notably with Anthony Braxton, Cecil McBee, Andrew Cyrille, Joe Morello, Charlie Hunter, Bob Mintzer, Dave Samuels, Don Byron, Paul McCandless and Marshal Crenshaw. His new release, The Pacific Jazz Group, on Ropeadope Records hit the streets in June of 2023. His next album, Cali Mambo, inspired by the George Shearting/Cal Tjader collaborations of the 1950's will be out May 2024 also on Ropeadope.

Sonya Walker Trio - Honoring Ahmad Jamal

Sonya Walker - piano, Michael Rinko - bass, Dru Heller - drums

After his passing in April of this year, Ahmad Jamal left behind a musical legacy that influenced many key players in the art form and changed our American Classical music itself. Born in 1930, he came up in an era of jazz in which virtuosity and speed were of great importance. To that world of density he brought a magnificent contrast; disciplined space, along with eclectic influences, incredible patience, and an orchestral style of playing that altered the concept of the piano trio. Now, 65 years after the release of But Not For Me at the Pershing in Chicago, this trio hopes to honor that spirit by carrying it forward with this performance in the dense and virtuosity-demanding year 2023.

Sonya Walker is a Colorado-born multi-instrumentalist who considers piano the sun in her musical solar system. She can be found playing several types of music in and around the Denver area. She has shared the stage with wonderful and spectacular people such as Greg Gisbert, Art Lande, Randy Brecker, and Roy Hargrove. This performance will be her Nocturne debut as a bandleader; you're invited, hope you can come!
