Ben Markley Trio

Ben Markley, a jazz pianist/arranger, has performed with Brian Lynch, Eddie Henderson, Terell Stafford, John Fedchock and many others. Markley's recording project is Clockwise: The Music of Cedar Walton (OA2 records) earned a coveted four-star review by Downbeat Magazine in 2017. His newest project featuring drummer Ari Honig is set to be released in 2022.

Ben is an active performer in the Denver-metropolitan area and currently serves as Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Wyoming where he directs the UW Jazz Festival, numerous ensembles, and teaches applied jazz piano and improvisation.

Dave Corbus - Electric Mingus

Nocturne welcomes Denver jazz guitarist Dave Corbus and his quartet (Eric Gunnison on piano, Mark Simon on bass, and Harold Summey on drums) to the stage to celebrate the musical legacy of the monumental composer, band leader, bassist, and activist Charles Mingus. The core of the sets will focus on Mingus' blues based compositions set for electric guitar quartet.

Dave Corbus, instructor of jazz guitar at CU Boulder, spent over a decade playing in New York City as part of the "downtown" and mainstream jazz scenes. Mr. Corbus and his trio played weekly at the New York jazz club Augies (now Smoke) for a three-year stint. Mr. Corbus has played with a variety of well-known jazz musicians such as Red Holloway, Lonnie Smith, Plas Johnson, Lewis Nash, Javon Jackson, Bobby Watson and Joey DeFrancesco, and his trio has performed at Denver’s finest jazz clubs and at Colorado’s biggest music festivals.

Greg Gisbert and Friends

Denver based trumpeter Greg Gisbert is one of the most sought-after and well-respected artists in jazz today. He has recorded and performed with: Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Clark Terry, Horace Silver, Maynard Ferguson, Bobby Shew, John Fedchock, Harry Connick Jr., Jim McNeely, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Nancy Wilson. Locally, he is one of the founding members of the group Convergence, nationally Gisbert is a frequent invited guest with an array of ensembles, including the Maria Schneider and Vanguard Jazz Orchestras, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band.

The Jeff Jenkins Trio

Jeff Jenkins began his musical life in pastoral Nebraska City, Nebr. and came to the piano through the guidance of his musical family, and quickly found that "playing by ear" proved to be perfect escape from an all too predictable small town reality. As a jazz pianist, Jeff has worked with a number of jazz legends including: Phil Woods, Freddie Hubbard, David Fathead Newman, Marlena Shaw, Eddie Harris, Richie Cole, Dakota Staton, Bobby Hutcherson, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, John Abercrombie, and Clark Terry. He is a talented band leader in his own right leading both straight ahead ensembles and "The Organization" a powerhouse B3 trio that plays often at Nocturne and other venues in Denver.

Important Notes:

During this time of limited indoor capacity, floor seats are only available by reservation as we are limited to 45 socially distanced seats per show/seating.

Music fees are included with all "Dinner and a Show" packages.

For walk-in guests, an artist fee of $15 per guest (per set) applies to this show.

Matt Smiley Trio

An avid explorer of jazz history and recordings, Smiley has performed both nationally and internationally, including the Montreux, North Sea, and Montreal Jazz Festivals. Matt has a Bachelor's degree in Music Industry with a Jazz Studies minor from James Madison University, and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado, and he is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Matt has led many artist-in-residencies at Nocturne and his most recent album "Crankbait" was released in spring of 2021 on the Nocturne Productions record label.
