We are delighted to present northern Colorado favorite Stuart MacAskie as he pays tribute to one of the most influential jazz pianists of all time: Bud Powell. An often underappreciated figure in the history of American music, Powell's contribution to bebop and the development of jazz piano is hard to overstate and continues to inspire musicians to this day.
Stu MacAskie is a pianist/organist/keyboardist/singer based in Denver, Colorado. Playing jazz and pop music with equal authority, he has graced the finest stages in the region, including featured performances at Popejoy Hall, The Lensic, The Outpost, The Macey Center, The Western New Mexico Fine Arts Center, The National Hispanic Cultural Center and many more performance venues large and small. He has performed in Europe and Southeast Asia, and toured the United States from coast to coast. His eight years as a part of the music scene in New York City sharpened his skills, preparing him for work in jazz, pop, and classical circles. Jazz artists that he has performed with include Frank Morgan, Bill Watrous, the New York Voices, Antonio Hart, and Bobby Shew; pop artists include Sparx, Patti Page, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Susan Lucci, Khadijah Ibrahim and Stepfanie Kramer. Since arriving in Denver he has performed at Dazzle, Nocturne, The Crimson Room, and many more venues.

Join us for this special performance by Nocturne favorite Adam Bodine as he leads an all-star trio. Bodine's distinctive voice as a composer, performer, and bandleader has made him a one-of-a-kind figure in the Colorado music scene. Adam's Trio (Adam Bodine - piano / keyboard, Matt Smiley - bass, Alejandro Castaño - drums) will be performing Bodine's original works, reworked pop/grunge tunes, and tried-and-true classics all with a witty, improvisatory twist.
A diligent bandleader and creative arranger, Adam Bodine has refreshingly open sensibilities and an expressive authenticity that comes to life through his original instrumental music. A sought-after sideman as well, this remarkably versatile keyboardist is active across a diverse range of scenes and communities. Undeniable is Adam’s natural musicality and his joy of playing live, which paired with his eccentric sense of humor, always shines on stage and treats audiences to unique and memorable experiences.

We are thrilled to welcome back to the stage a staple of the Colorado music community: the Annie Booth Trio. Annie and her group (Patrick McDevitt on bass and Alejandro Castaño on drums) are an institution at Nocturne; as our first ever artists-in-residence, it is an honor to continue our partnership heading in celebration of our 10th anniversary month! A trio of Denver locals with a decades-long history of musical collaboration, Annie and her trio have developed a singular, joyful sound presenting original music and creative adaptations of everything from songbook standards to iconic works by the Beatles. This band is not to be missed!
Annie Booth is a versatile and award-winning composer, arranger, and jazz pianist. She has received international recognition for her work as a composer with awards and grants from the likes of Chamber Music America, ASCAP, Downbeat Magazine, and many others. As a bandleader, Booth has released six albums and her most recent release is her 2023 otherworldly chamber jazz album, Flowers of Evil: The Poetry of Charles Baudelaire Imagined Through Music. Additionally, Booth is a respected jazz educator and appears frequently across North America as a guest artist-educator. She serves on the faculty at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music in the Jazz & Commercial Music Program, teaching jazz composition, arranging, and jazz piano.
