Month Flat Week Day

PASSIFLORA

All day

A collaboration between powerhouse musicians Marion Powers, Annie Booth, and Camilla Vaitaitis, PASSIFLORA formed out of a mutual love for the wide, expressive world of Brazilian music. Joined by an acclaimed rhythm section of bassist Bijoux Barbosa and drummer Dru Heller, PASSIFLORA presents a captivating book of beautiful music from the pens of Brazilian mainstays, lesser known gems, and members of the group.

Annie Booth is a versatile and award-winning composer, arranger, and jazz pianist. She has received national recognition for her work as a composer/arranger with awards and grants from the likes of ASCAP, Downbeat Magazine, the Jazz Education Network, the International Society for Jazz Arrangers and Composers, and Chamber Music America. She has composed commissioned works for institutions such as the University of Idaho and the University of Nevada, Reno, where she is proud to be the Commissioned Composer for the 2022 Reno Jazz Festival.

Annie’s writing spans from small group jazz to big band and chamber works. Her 2022 studio album, Flowers Of Evil, is an original song cycle of the poetry of 19th century French poet Charles Baudelaire composed for 11-piece chamber-jazz group. Additionally, Booth leads and writes for the Annie Booth Big Band, an 18-piece jazz orchestra made up of top players such as Greg Gisbert, Wil Swindler, and Paul McKee. Booth has released four albums as a bandleader and has appeared on more than a dozen more as a side-musician. Her most recent sextet project Alpenglow, was released worldwide on June 24, 2022.

Marion Powers is an award-winning jazz vocalist with dynamic improvisation skills and a modern , but sensitive approach to songwriting/arranging. While heavily influenced by classic jazz singers like Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, and Sarah Vaughan, her experiences performing with or being mentored by Christian McBride, Dianne Reeves, Marshall Gilkes, Johnaye Kendrick, and Melissa Aldana have been instrumental to her artistic development.

Marion earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Jazz Performance from the University of North Texas. In 2018, Marion was the selected vocalist for The Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy Big Band, where she was mentored by Christian McBride and Dianne Reeves. Marion maintains a worldwide voice studio and recently relocated from the Dallas/Fort Worth area to begin in-person teaching at the University of Northern Colorado.
