Join us for a Soulful New Year's Eve Celebration. From Memphis to Motown, singer Robert Johnson and the Boulder Blues Quartet quartet will be paying homage to the great artists of Stax Records and Motor City as we ring in the New Year in proper Nocturne fashion.

 

There will be two seatings on this night, and tickets are required to attend.

SEATING 1: 6:30pm - 9:30pm

SEATING 2: 10:00pm - 1:00am

Reserved Table tickets include a special welcome cocktail along with a delectable four course dinner. (And champagne for second seating) 

General Admission guests will be offered bar and cocktail tables on a first come, first serve basis. Once these seats fill we will accommodate any remaining guests with a standing room space in the bar area.

We did sell out very quickly last year, and so plan and purchase ahead of time!

ROBERT JOHNSON & THE BOULDER BLUES QUARTET

ROBERT JOHNSON: Since making his home in Denver, Colorado. Robert has been named Best Male Vocalist in the Denver Posts Readers Poll, Best Jazz Vocalist by the Colorado Black Artists Association, was honored as Colorado’s Best Male Singer by the News and Radio Media and Best Male Vocalist by the Colorado Songwriters Association. His soon to be released jazz project A Long Road Traveled and his R&B project Black And Blue continues to showcase his production talents. Bob Schlesinger is a pianist, composer and producer whose work covers diverse styles of jazz, blues, R&B, rock and classical. He has toured the country as keyboardist for singer Hazel Miller, and his jazz group, Tsunami toured the United States and Europe.

John March is the consummate musician whether it be in the studio or on the stage. He’s worked with many of the biggest names in music as a Guitarist, Producer, Arranger and Composer. As a session guitarist and engineer in LA he’s graced the recordings of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Sting. Has toured with Ray Charles and last but not least! Jay Forrest is an accomplished touring vocalist and drummer in the world of gospel, blues and R&B. He's shared the stage with Steven Stills, Dan Fogelberg, Joe Walsh, Joe Cocker, Bill Withers, and Blood, Sweat and Tears. He has performed at the Monterey Blues and Jazz Festival and the Newport Folk and Jazz Fest with such artists as Albert King, Etta James, Charlie Musslewhite and many other blues and jazz greats. More recently, Jay has been the backing vocalist and drummer with the Lionel Young Band.

Chris Harris is the man you call for bass - whether it be Blues, Funk or Jazz he fills the bottom like nobody’s business! Since moving from Indiana and making his home in Colorado he’s become a mainstay in the club, recording and touring scene that has seen it’s resurgence here in the mile high city! And don’t play chess with him…..he will take all your money!

SAM WILLIAMS TRIO

Samuel Williams is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado (2011), where he earned M.M. degrees in Saxophone Performance and Jazz Studies. Since graduation Sam has entered the professional fold and established himself as a versatile performer and educator in the front range region. He currently resides in Boulder, CO, and is on faculty at Parlando School for the Arts in addition to maintaining a private teaching studio. Samuel performs extensively throughout Northern Colorado as a jazz artist, both as a leader and sideman. Samuel was awarded the Saxophone Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and School from 2013 to 2015 and has presented a solo recital at the Aspen Music Festival a swell.  Samuel has recently presented classical recitals in Boulder and has performed with several orchestras throughout Colorado. Sam is a Nocturne Artist in Residence Alum as both a sideman and band leader.

Denver jazz staple Eric Gunnison was raised in a musical family in Buffalo, NY and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating with a BA in music composition in 1979. He lives in Denver where he has been a mainstay in the music scene for 19 years. Eric has toured and recorded with the iconic jazz vocalist Carmen McRae, and trumpeter Ron Miles. In addition, he has performed in concert with Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Phil Woods, Bobby Shew, John McNeil and Eddie Gomez.

Gunnison has also been the pianist and a composer/arranger for the cooperative band Convergence one of Denver’s leading jazz ensembles, since 1991. Active for more than 30 years as a sideman and studio musician Gunnison is active faculty at the University of Denver’s Lamont School Of Music and the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts.

This residence will feature Eric's catalogue of original trio compositions.

THE WILL SWINDLER QUARTET

Wil Swindler, is a saxophonist, composer, and winner of the 2008 Gil Evans Fellowship, and educator based in the Denver Front Range area.   

Mr. Swindler holds a B.M. from the University of North Texas and has received commissions from West Point's Jazz Knights, The USAF Falconaires, Denver University, Colorado State University, and has composed original music for Steve Wilson and Steve Weist among others. As a performer, he has played with Toshiko Akiyoshi, Cuong Vu, John Fedchock, Steve Wilson, Bill Warfield, Greg Gisbert, and many others. 

In the Fall of 2009, Mr. Swindler joined the music faculty at Colorado State University as Associate Director of Jazz Studies where he teaches jazz theory, jazz composition/arranging, improvisation and directs Jazz Ensemble II. Wil has served as an Adjunct Saxophone Teacher at Denver University, composition teacher for the Colorado Conservatory of the Jazz Arts, faculty at the Yellowstone Jazz Camp as well as the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Camp, and maintains an active private studio of saxophone and composition students.

The Tom Gershwin Sextet

The Tom Gershwin Sextet will be performing original works and adaptations of choice classics.  Inspired by Afro-Latin music and hard bop artists like Horace Silver and Cannonball Adderley, this dynamic group of multi-instrumentalists will feature lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and infectious grooves.

Tom's first full recording, Sweet Pastimes was released in 2013 and has received wonderful critical acclaim with international radio play. Tom has recently performed with a diverse range of groups, including Juno winner Jayme Stone, The Temptations, Leftover Salmon, The Motet, Ryan Tedder, and The New West Guitar Group. In May 2012, Tom graduated from NYU, where he was an adjunct faculty member. At NYU he performed and worked with Kenny Werner, Brian Lynch, Chris Potter, Ralph Alessi, Tony Moreno, and trumpet guru Laurie Frink. While in New York, Tom was also a faculty member at Douglaston School of Music and Art. As an artist continually moving forward, Tom seeks to understand a daily process that allows emotion and creativity to thrive. By dedicating himself to this, he strives to inspire students, fellow musicians, and listeners alike through his work.
