Daryl Gott Quartet explores Desmond
For this special May series, Nocturne welcome's saxophonist Daryl Gott back to the stage as he explores the musical legacy of the great Paul Desmond. Paul will be joined by Alex Heffron (guitar), Seth Lewis (bass), Brian Claxton (drums). Paul Desmond (1924-1977) was an American alto saxophonist with a highly melodic and lyrical style of improvisation and a most unique and warm tone, often described by himself as a “dry martini.” Most widely known for his work with the Pianist Dave Brubeck’s Quartet and his hallmark composition Take Five, Desmond enjoyed a very successful career. During his time outside of the Brubeck Quartet, Desmond often played and recorded in different lineups with guitarists Jim Hall and Ed Bickert. Saxophonist and composer Daryl Gott was born and raised in Denver. Growing up in a musical family Daryl was exposed to music and specifically jazz at a young age. He graduated from Denver School of the arts and continued his formal music education at the City College of New York where he studied with saxophonist Jon Gordon. In 2011, Daryl moved back to Denver and began working as a freelance musician. Since then, he has become a staple of the Denver jazz scene, playing multiple jazz gigs around town every week. He has played with notable musicians such as Greg Gisbert, Paa Kow, Jason Rigby and Jonathan Blake among others. Daryl recently received a Masters degree in jazz saxophone at the University of Colorado Boulder.

- If availability permits, we do allow walk-in guests. Walk-in guests will have a music charge of $20 per person applied to their check on weeknights.
