All Day

For this special May series, Nocturne welcome's saxophonist Daryl Gott back to the stage as he explores the musical legacy of the great Paul Desmond.  Paul Desmond (1924-1977) was an American alto saxophonist with a highly melodic and lyrical style of improvisation and a most unique and warm tone, often described by himself as a “dry martini.”  Most widely known for his work with the Pianist Dave Brubeck’s Quartet and his hallmark composition Take Five, Desmond enjoyed a very successful career. During his time outside of the Brubeck Quartet, Desmond often played and recorded in different lineups with guitarists Jim Hall and Ed Bickert.

Saxophonist and composer Daryl Gott was born and raised in Denver. Growing up in a musical family Daryl was exposed to music and specifically jazz at a young age. He graduated from Denver School of the arts and continued his formal music education at the City College of New York where he studied with saxophonist Jon Gordon. Daryl is established in Denver's jazz scene as an in demand sideman and a dynamic bandleader.
