The Walter Gorra Elevation Trio aims to uplift and elevate the listener through Walter’s newest original compositions and arrangements. Featuring Gonzalo Teppa on bass, and Alejandro Castaño on drums, these long-time friends and Colorado musical accomplices draw from their diverse musical backgrounds to develop an exciting and fresh sound. The trio does this while respecting the tradition and history of jazz and makes its own contributions to the trajectory of the music.
Walter Gorra is a Colorado-raised pianist, composer, educator and structural engineer. Studying at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Walter earned degrees in jazz piano performance and structural engineering and had the good fortune to study and work with Art Lande, Jeff Jenkins, Victor Mestas and many other notable Colorado musicians. Earning his master’s degree at William Paterson University in New Jersey, Walter had the opportunity to study and work with Jim McNeely, Cecil Bridgewater, Harold Mabern and Bill Charlap among others. During his time in New York, Walter also performed and/or wrote and arranged music for Paquito D’Rivera, Ingrid Jensen, and Pete McGuinness and others. Walter has performed at jazz festivals and clubs throughout North and Central America and won Downbeat and ASCAP Herb Alpert awards for his compositions.

Explorations of the Journey - Pianist Ben Markley has curated a collection of the music that marks a new chapter in his music development. The set will feature original works from Ben and compositions by visionary living composers (including Herbie Hancock, Ari Hoenig, and John Scofield) who have pushed the rhythmic boundaries of the jazz idiom. The explore these works, Markley has assembled a new cast of musicians who are thoroughly conscientious, unselfish musicians dedicated to shaping sound and serving the music.
Ben Markley is an accomplished pianist, band leader and composer/arranger, active throughout the Rocky Mountain front range and has performed with Brian Lynch, Greg Osby, Eddie Henderson, Terell Stafford, George Garzone, Bobby Shew and John Fedchock and many others. Markley's latest big band recording project Clockwise - The Music of Cedar Walton (OA2 records) earned a coveted four-star review by Downbeat Magazine in Spring of 2017. Markley is three-time Nocturne artist in residency alum, and is featured on Nocturne's first ever record release.

The last two Fridays in May, David Bernot (a recipient of two Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer awards) and his new quintet will debut a selection of innovative & original compositions that represent David's eclectic education and uniquely forged career. David's top-shelf quintet is comprised of a collection of highly regarded and grammy award nominated musicians including: Greg Gisbert on trumpet, Tom Amend on piano, Gonzalo Teppa on bass and Michael D'Angelo on drums. All the members of this quintet are also active educators and performers in Colorado's world-class jazz scene.
David Bernot, born and raised in Gilbert Arizona, moved to Denver in 2012 to study jazz performance at the University of Denver. Since earning a Bachelors of Music from DU’s Lamont School of Music David has played professionally a jazz musician and freelance saxophonist ( in funk, pop & EDM categories).. In addition to playing, David also teaches a private studio, and is faculty with the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts.
