The Jack Dunlevie Trio

W2 are delighted to welcome Jack Dunlevie to the stage as he plays the works of Oscar Peterson and other trio masters. Jack will be joined on stage by Ken Walker on bass and Collin Stranahan on drums.

Jack Dunlevie is a Denver-based pianist, mandolinist, vocalist, and composer. He graduated in 2015 from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver winning awards in composition and recital performance. Performing full time around Colorado and touring nationally he can be heard playing Jazz, Classical, Salsa, and Bluegrass with a variety of bands both as a side man and as a leader. This will be Jack's second Nocturne residency as a band leader.

The Wil Swindler Quartet

Wil Swindler - alto, Ben Markley - piano, Seth Lewis - bass, Jim White - drums

Wil Swindler is a composer, woodwind performer and winner of the 2008 Gil Evans Fellowship, and educator based in the Denver Front Range area.  Mr. Swindler holds a B.M. from the University of North Texas and has received commissions from West Point's Jazz Knights, The USAF Falconaires, Denver University, Colorado State University, and has composed original music for many modern jazz artists. As a performer, he has played with Toshiko Akiyoshi, Cuong Vu, John Fedchock, Steve Wilson, Bill Warfield, Greg Gisbert, and many others. 

Wil Swindler is on the music faculty at Colorado State University as Associate Director of Jazz Studies where he teaches jazz theory, jazz composition/arranging, improvisation and directs Jazz Ensemble II. Wil has served as an Adjunct Saxophone Teacher at Denver University, composition teacher for the Colorado Conservatory of the Jazz Arts, faculty at the Yellowstone Jazz Camp as well as the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Camp, and maintains an active private studio of saxophone and composition students.

Greg Gisbert and Rico Jones honor Kenny Dorham

This series aims to pay homage to the art and life of trumpeter and composer Kenny Dorham. Known both as a bandleader and for his work with saxophonist Joe Henderson, Kenny Dorham played along many jazz greats including Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Max Roach, and Art Blakey and Jazz Messengers. Kenny helped define the sound of bebop, and hard bop through his masterful improvisations and compositional abilities.

July 16th will feature Vlad Girshevich on piano, Bill McCrossen on bass, and Colin Stranahan on drums

July 30th will feature Eric Gunnison on piano, Seth Lewis on bass, and Harold Summey on drums

Denver based trumpeter Greg Gisbert has firmly established himself as one of the most sought-after and well-respected artists in jazz today.  He has recorded and performed with jazz greats including Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Clark Terry, Horace Silver, Maynard Ferguson, Bobby Shew, John Fedchock, Harry Connick Jr., Jim McNeely, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Nancy Wilson.  He is one of the founding members of the group Convergence, as well as the founder of the Greg Gisbert Syndicate, both based in Denver.  Gisbert is a frequent invited guest with an array of ensembles, including the Maria Schneider and Vanguard Jazz Orchestras, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band. 

Rico Jones, a Colorado native, first picked up the alto saxophone at age 11, by eighth grade Rico was playing with high school level ensembles as well as participating in the Denver Jazz Club Youth All-Stars, Telluride All-Star Band, and The Sacramento Jazz Festival All Stars group and in 2016 he was chosen take part in the prestigious Jazz Band of America. He has performed with Ernie Watts, Candido, Donald Harrison, Howard Levy, Ari Hoenig, Jeff Coffin, Colin Stranahan, Hubert Laws, Terrell Stafford and, Earl Clue. Rico Jones lives in Denver in summer and New York City the rest of the year where he is studying at the Manhattan School of Music.

The Peter Sommer Quartet plays music for and by the eternal Sonny Rollins

Peter Sommer has contributed his energetic tenor playing and creative spirit to a wide variety of musical projects ranging from mainstream bebop to avant garde and beyond at venues across the nation and around the world. Although rooted in the great jazz tradition of his heroes Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman, he continues to search for the mystery in music making and takes great joy in sharing the present moment with the listener. Peter Sommer is Associate Professor of Jazz Studies and Saxophone at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins. At CSU, Mr. Sommer directs Jazz Ensemble I and coordinates the Jazz Studies area. Peter is a D'Addario endorsed Woodwinds Artist.

The Jenna McLean Quartet

Jenna McLean is a jazz vocalist and Lecturer in Music and Entertainment at the University of Memphis Lambuth in Jackson, TN. As an accomplished performer, vocal technician, songwriter and educator, she finds her artistic drive in bringing new twists to timeless standards of the Great American Songbook as well as pop, funk and soul tunes. With a love and devotion for jazz, opera, R&B, and folk music, she maintains the belief that all music is good music as long as it speaks to the soul and grooves. Jenna has a Doctor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. She was the 2019 winner of the Downbeat Graduate Vocal Soloist Category, and a 2019 recent recipient of the Pathways to Jazz Grant. While she now lives in Tennessee, she still calls Colorado home and performs regularly there. She has had the pleasure of performing alongside renowned musicians such as Bobby McFerrin, Aubrey Logan and the New York Voices, and also performs regularly with incredible Denver-based jazz musicians such as Steve Kovalcheck, Ben Markley, Eric Gunnison, Tom Amend, Dawn Clement, Annie Booth and others.
