THE JEFF HAMILTON TRIO - LIVE AT NOCTURNE

One of the most highly regarded drummers on the planet, Jeff Hamilton is a dynamic bandleader and top tier jazz musician of incredible pedigree. In his twenties, he cut his teeth playing with Lionel Hampton, Monty Alexander and Woody Herman. In his thirties he performed with Ella Fitzgerald, the Count Basie Orchestra and Rosemary Clooney, and has since toured with Oscar Peterson and the Ray Brown trio and served as co-director of the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and toured the world many times leading The Jeff Hamilton Trio. In addition to his iconic recordings with Ray Brown, Jeff is featured on nearly 200 recordings with artists such as Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Milt Jackson, Rosemary Clooney, Barbara Streisand, Mel Torme, John Pizzarelli, Benny Carter, Lalo Schifrin, George Shearing, Dr. John, Clark Terry, Gene Harris, Toshiko Akioshi, Scott Hamilton, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Keely Smith, Bill Holman, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel and Mark Murphy. Jeff is a frequent guest of the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany. He also appeared in Natalie Cole’s Great Performances PBS special and Unforgettable and an Oscar Peterson documentary, Life In The Key Of Oscar.

Featuring pianist Tamir Hendelman and bassist Jon Hamar. The ensemble is widely considered to be one of the finest small groups in jazz, setting the bar for what a versatile trio can attain, with tight knit, and ever-swingin' creative arrangements of standards and original compositions.

Tom Amend is an organist, pianist, composer, and arranger from Denver, Colorado. Performing and recording often throughout the Rocky Mountain Region in various settings as both a leader and a sideman he can be heard with with Colorado based Soul/Blues artists: The Burroughs and the Taylor Scott Band. Tom was selected as a semifinalist for the American Jazz Pianist Competition in 2014 and 2015, and was a finalist in concert in 2017. Amend received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and a Masters of Music in Jazz Composition at the University of Northern Colorado. Through his association with UNC, Tom has performed with nationally recognized UNC Lab I, UNC Vanguard Combo, and Vocal Lab. As a member of these ensembles, he performed with, Chris Potter, Christian McBride, Julia Dollison, Jeff Hamilton, Joey DeFrancesco, Groove For Thought, Greg Gisbert, Deborah Brown, John Fedchock, Louis Hayes, Dave Liebman, Sheila Jordan and others. Tom is currently an Adjunct Professor of Jazz Piano at the University of Northern Colorado. As a bandleader and organist, Tom's recently released debut album, "Frontier Justice" features Jeff Hamilton on drums and Steve Kovalcheck on guitar.

The Gonzalo Teppa Quintet

Venezuelan bassist Gonzalo Teppa presents a month residency fearturing his most recent compositions that draw from the musical wells of contemporary jazz, Latin American music (Venezuelan, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban) blues, free jazz and more.

Teppa obtained his Bachelor of Music and Master in Jazz Studies degrees at The University of Colorado and has performed with: Wynton Marsalis, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Matt Wilson, Ed Simon, Chris Potter, Tom Harrell, Bobby Shew, Ron Miles, Art Lande, Slide Hampton, Don Byron, Jeremy Pelt, Ben Goldberg, among others. Some of Gonzalo's awards are: “Pathways to Jazz Grant-2018”, “2004, 2005, 2006, Best Jazz Soloist Award” from Downbeat Magazine, two Latin Grammy nominations, and more. Teppa has released five albums: “Designios”, “Travesias”, “Serpentina", “CONtrabajos de Aldemaro” and “Sinergia”.

The Wil Swindler Quintet

Wil Swindler is a composer, woodwind performer and winner of the 2008 Gil Evans Fellowship, and educator based in the Denver Front Range area.  Mr. Swindler holds a B.M. from the University of North Texas and has received commissions from West Point's Jazz Knights, The USAF Falconaires, Denver University, Colorado State University, and has composed original music for many modern jazz artists. As a performer, he has played with Toshiko Akiyoshi, Cuong Vu, John Fedchock, Steve Wilson, Bill Warfield, Greg Gisbert, and many others. 

Wil Swindler is on the music faculty at Colorado State University as Associate Director of Jazz Studies where he teaches jazz theory, jazz composition/arranging, improvisation and directs Jazz Ensemble II. Wil has served as an Adjunct Saxophone Teacher at Denver University, composition teacher for the Colorado Conservatory of the Jazz Arts, faculty at the Yellowstone Jazz Camp as well as the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Camp, and maintains an active private studio of saxophone and composition students.

Rich Chiaraluce is a woodwind authority and long-time fixture of the Denver jazz scene. He has performed with the Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Bobby Shew, Red Rodney, Carl Fontana, as well a singers Mel Tormé, Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, and Natalie Cole. Mr. Chiaraluce has taught at the University of Denver and the University of Northern Colorado. Rich has recorded two albums as a bandleader: Because I Love You and Live at Sherman’s Coffee House spotlights featuring Dale Bruning and Ken Walker.

Keith Oxman is a Denver jazz scene icon, tenor master and bandleader - he has played with notable artists Sonny Stitt, Art Blakey, Buddy Rich, Jack McDuff, Red Holloway, Pete Christlieb, Joe Bonner, Tom Harrell, Phil Woods, Dave Brubeck, Gerry Bergonzi and many more. Keith is a three-time Nocturne Artist in Residency alumni.
