Adam Bodine Quintet

Wednesday Nights in July - Nocturne welcomes back to the stage the entertaining and musically eclectic Adam Bodine. Adam is a creative and charismatic jazz pianist and composer that will be leading a splendid quintet through a fresh batch of his original tunes. Adam’s repertoire is constantly shapeshifting and playfully intermingles a broad range of styles, sounds, feels, and moods.  Undeniable is Bodine’s natural musicality and joy of playing, which paired with his lovely sense of humor, always shines on stage and treats audiences to memorable experiences. In addition to the upcoming live performances, also definitely worth exploring are Adam Bodine’s two recent epic studio albums “Scenes of Changery” and “Nurtured by Nature.”

Swindler, Sommer & Mervine Sextet

This brand new project created for the Nocturne stage, is a collective of elite Colorado musicians that celebrates the jazz art form through impeccable arrangements of straight-ahead and original repertoire, injected with spirited high level improvisation. The ensemble is comprised of Wil Swindler and Peter Sommer (saxophones), Gabriel Mervine (trumpet and flugelhorn) and an ever swinging rhythm section that includes contributions from Tom Amend, Steve Denny, Seth Lewis, Patrick McDevitt, Paul Romaine, and Alejandro Castaño.

Reid Poole Quintet: New Orleans and Beyond

The last three Fridays in July, we celebrate the energy of the Crescent City and present the Reid Pool Quintet (Reid Pool - trumpet, Ricky Sweum - saxophone, Alejandro Castaño - drums, Steve Denny - piano, Matt Smiley - bass). Swinging in that place between straight ahead and traditional, this top-shelf quintet will perform play a well curated collection of New Orleans standards, supplemented by a handful of unique original works.


Bandleader Reid Poole is happy to be an active band leader, freelance musician, and educator in the great city of New Orleans. Reid has been influenced and inspired by the swinging sounds of New Orleans since his first trip there in 2002 with his high school band. Reid relocated to NOLA (from Colorado) after graduating with a Master’s from the Eastman School of Music and quickly become an integral part in the deeply rooted music community. Reid has played throughout the United States, Canada, and Japan as a part of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Ricky Sweum Quintet, and with his bands, DinosAurchestra and The Secret Six.

Royal Roost Revival

ROYAL ROOST REVIVAL


An original Nocturne series honoring the prodigious art form of bebop returns for a five show run, Saturday nights in July. Curated and led by Colorado based saxophonist/arranger/composer Wil Swindler, this series is inspired by the iconic Royal Roost jazz club on New York's storied 52nd Street in the late 1940's where bebop was organically brought to life by musicians such as Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Tadd Dameron, Fats Navarro, Miles Davis and Max Roach.


Wil Swindler will be joined on the bandstand by a number of special guests including: Eric Gunnison, Jim White, Seth Lewis, Mike Rinko, Greg Gisbert and Paul Romaine.

Annie Booth Sextet: Alpenglow Album Release

The Annie Booth Sextet, came together in 2015 as an idea of celebrating a multi-generational band of diverse and expressive improvising musicians who boast deep ties not only with one another within the group but also with the legacy of the great jazz scene in Denver, CO - the hometown of each member. The sextet performs a collection of Annie’s original compositions (written expressly for this group) that highlight the diverse individual voices of each band member. The group is a 2021 grantee of the Performance Plus Grant from Chamber Music America and the Doris Duke Foundation, a program that gave them the opportunity of time spent with master musician Art Lande before recording their latest album, Alpenglow. An album of eight original compositions, Alpenglow is released worldwide on June 24, 2022 and the Annie Booth Sextet is delighted to celebrate its release in performance at Nocturne on these two engagements.  Annie Booth (piano), Greg Gisbert (trumpet), Wil Swindler (alto sax), John Gunther (tenor & soprano sax), Patrick McDevitt (bass), Alejandro Castaño (drums)



Annie Booth is a versatile and award-winning composer, arranger, and jazz pianist. She has received national recognition for her work as a composer/arranger with awards and grants from the likes of ASCAP (Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers’ Awards, Phoebe Jacobs Prize), Downbeat Magazine, the Jazz Education Network, the International Society for Jazz Arrangers and Composers, and Chamber Music America. She has composed commissioned works for institutions such as the University of Idaho and the University of Nevada, Reno, where she is proud to be the Commissioned Composer for the 2022 Reno Jazz Festival.


Annie’s writing spans from small group jazz to big band and chamber works. Her forthcoming 2022 studio album, Flowers Of Evil, is an original song cycle of the poetry of 19th century French poet Charles Baudelaire composed for 11-piece chamber-jazz group. Flowers Of Evil features renowned soprano Kathryn Radakovich. Additionally, Booth leads and writes for the Annie Booth Big Band, an 18-piece jazz orchestra made up of top players such as Greg Gisbert, Wil Swindler, and Paul McKee. Booth has released four albums as a bandleader and has appeared on more than a dozen as a side-musician. Her next album, Alpenglow, will be released worldwide on June 24.
