Hailing from Virginia, Harold Summey, has been a drummer/percussionist for over thirty years and has shared the stage with Sonny Rollins, Clark Terry, Buck Hill, Harold Mabern, Eric Alexander, Gunther Schuller, Wynton Marsalis, Geri Allen, Pat Metheny, Whitney Houston, James Moody, John Hicks, David 'Fathead' Newman, Don Braden, Brian Lynch, Walt Weiskopf, Terrell Stafford, Nick Brignola, Ray Charles, Patti Austin, Aaron Neville, Bobby Watson, and Frank Sinatra, Jr. In 1992, Mr. Summey was the first prize winner of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition.
Harold has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, The American Festival Pops Orchestra, The Airmen of Note, The Navy Commodores, The Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, The Annapolis Symphony, The Maryland Symphony and The United States Army Band 'Pershing's Own'. As an educator he has done clinics and master classes for the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz in the United States and abroad as well as at Hampton University, Howard University, George Mason University, and C.U.'s Mile High Jazz Camp. Additionally, while living in the Washington, DC area, he was on the faculties of Howard University, American University, and George Mason University for more than a decade.

The Gabriel Mervine Quartet

The Gabriel Mervine Quartet is a collection of prodigious, like minded artists who have traveled the world round, performing and sharing the jazz art form with thousands of people. This year the band celebrated their seventh album release earlier this year, to celebrate this achievement they will be performing works from all seven albums, which include Gabriel's compositions as well as original works by bassist Patrick McDevitt and pianist Eric Gunnison. This collection of original music, fortified by a handful of standards will draw from a broad range of genres, moods and styles will wow Nocturne audiences all month long. Gabe will be joined on stage by a collection of Denver's finest rhythm section performers throughout the series including Jack Dunlevie, Seth Lewis, Patrick McDevitt, Dru Heller and Eric Gunnison.
Bandleader Gabriel Mervine is deeply rooted in the traditions of Jazz and Classical and is an active contributor to the modern music scene both in Colorado and nationally. Born in Bridgewater, New Jersey, Gabriel began his professional playing career at the age of thirteen. By the time he graduated high school he was already looking at making a career out of playing the trumpet. He has studied with Bobby Shew, Roger Ingram, and Greg Gisbert and quickly gained recognition for as a unique and capable player in any environment. Gabriel has performed with Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, Chie Imaizumi, Terence Blanchard, Russell Malone, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, John McNeil, Convergence, Roberta Gambarini, the Motet, and Houston Person Gabriel now resides in Denver, Colorado and keeps a rigorous schedule of local and national performances.

The Derek Banach Quintet

Trumpeter Derek Banach returns to the Nocturne stage to explore classic and straight ahead works from the 60's to the present. Composers include Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, Mulgrew Miller as well as original works by Derek.
Colorado native Derek Banach has performed professionally for 30 years in a variety of settings from Jazz to Hip-Hop, Salsa, Classical, and Reggae. His roots are firmly set in the Hard-Bop stylings of 60's period icons such as Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw. Derek's quintet album, 'Tugende' displays his composing talents and personal approach to trumpet playing. He has recorded with Italian producer Nicola Conte, Quintetto X, Paul Mulliken and has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Richie Cole, Joe Bonner and Ron Miles.

Taylor Roberts Quartet

Taylor Roberts’ favorite guitar album is “Smokin’ at the Half Note” by Wes Montgomery and the Wynton Kelly Trio, which explains his love for playing with a piano trio. The performance will include selections from this iconic album, along with other standards that have become iconic works within the jazz canon.
Taylor Roberts’ professional career is well into its third decade, spanning a wide a range of influences and genres. Although his heart is deeply steeped in jazz, his influences range from R&B, to classic rock, to pop, and everything in between. Roberts has appeared multiple times at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and has toured internationally with the Christian Tamburr Quintet. He had the pleasure of playing at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island for nearly a decade and has the distinct honor as having performed for the Rolling Stones at private events.
