Music

Our acoustically designed room in the heart of Denver plays host to live jazz nightly (Wednesday through Sunday). Check the calendar below for set times as they may vary. Nocturne’s distinctive Artist in Residency programming is at the core of our line up. Most artists who perform at Nocturne engage in a four- to eight-week run that focuses on the exploration of a musical icon, the study of a jazz genre, or the exhibition of an Artist's own original work. This old-school approach to programming combines the unique opportunity to hone one’s craft with regular stage time, while also establishing an elevated rapport with Denver music fans. Nocturne is proud to be the only venue in Colorado that features jazz exclusively, and we are also pleased to feature national touring artists on special occasions.

ABOUT LIVE MUSIC AT NOCTURNE:

Reservations are strongly recommended for either music set. By reserving your seat for dinner and a show you can enjoy the live music along with a three course menu by our talented culinary team. You can make a reservation on-line or via phone @ 303.295.3333.

Supporting the musicians practicing their craft on our stage is important to us - your prepaid dinner reservation includes the artist fees that support fair pay to our music community. You can support in other ways such as purchasing music online, physical CD's or sending Venmo tips to your favorite artists. The music community is strong but still working to rebound from a lot of cancelled gigs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your support of their craft will keep this art form alive.

Included with all "Dinner and a Show Reservations", our three course dinner allows guests to choose between several offerings for each course for a truly customized dinner. Dishes such as seasonal salads or Colorado lamb are crafted by our culinary team with a focus on highlighting seasonality and the use of front range farmers, organic ranchers and other small-scale Colorado based purveyors. Most evenings, you can also find a nightly Chef's Special to substitute into your three course tasting.  Our team is also happy to assist in modifying dishes to accommodate most dietary restrictions. To heighten the dining experience, guests can also enjoy wine and cocktail pairings for each course hand selected by our sommelier and award winning beverage team.   Due to demand of "Dinner and a Show" tables, we highly recommend advance reservations.

Renditions Menu Release: GIANT STEPS by John Coltrane

RENDITIONS VOLUME 15: GIANT STEPS

What happens when an iconic recording inspires a chef and sommelier? RENDITIONS - An interactive 5 course dinner where the art of gastronomy and music collide.

Every two months, the Nocturne hospitality team produces an all new five-course tasting menu that seeks to express the aesthetics of iconic albums through flavor, texture, and emotion. In addition to celebrating the release of the new menu alongside the music live, the night includes interactive chats and course explanations by the musical guests, Chef Greg Weadick, Nocturne co-owner Nicole Mattson and co-owner/sommelier Scott Mattson.  For our 16th menu, we have selected the iconic and genre-altering record Giant Steps, by John Coltrane.

Performing the works live will be the John Gunther Quartet: Eric Gunnison - piano, Ken Walker - bass, Paul Romaine - drums.

Giant Steps was John Coltrane's debut recording on the Atlantic label - put together over just a few sessions in 1959. All seven pieces issued on the original release are original Coltrane compositions that serve as vehicles for Coltrane's brilliant and intense tenor solos. Throughout the recording, a frenetic performance style that noted jazz journalist Ira Gitler accurately dubbed "sheets of sound" can be heard. Coltrane's polytonal torrents extricate the amicable and otherwise cordial solos that had begun decaying the very exigency of the genre -- turning it into the equivalent of easy listening. He wastes no time as the disc's title track immediately indicates a progression from which there would be no looking back. Line upon line of highly cerebral improvisation snake between the melody and solos, practically fusing the two (and pushing his bandmates to their own creative limits).
